Shutdown Guidance

The current continuing resolution expires at midnight tonight, December 21. As of this writing, there is a strong possibility of a shutdown. You may have already been contacted by IRS to be given formal notice of the shutdown and informed whether you are excepted (required to work) or non-excepted (not required to work during the shutdown). Most properly scheduled and approved use-or-lose should be restored in the event of a shutdown. However, as Monday, December 24, 2018 was recently declared a federal holiday, you would not get back the 8 hours use-or-lose for that day.

We’re don’t know yet whether or when employees will be expected to return to the office for shutdown activities. Please monitor the IRS Emergency Hotline for more information. Please also make sure we have your home email and cell phone information on NTEU.org if you’d like to receive regular updates on the situation.
